"Dogs come into our lives, leave paw prints on our hearts, and we are forever changed."

The following pays tribute to those who passed while in Knine Rescue's care.

GISELLA

We only this special kitty for a short time but this 4 lbs little girl left big paw prints on our hearts. She had so many cards stacked against her and despite our attempts to save her, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go.

SQUIRT

Squirt was found in a local 7-eleven dumpster. She was a friendly and outgoing little thing but so, so sick and could not recover from her illness. We made the hard decision to end her suffering. RIP little one.

CINNA

We want to send a heart felt thanks to everyone who donated towards Cinna's care. Together, we raised over $3k! We learned about Cinna in early February but did not think we could take on the enormous cost of her medical needs while caring for the other dogs under our care. But we made the mistake of visiting her. How could we possibly say no then? Cinna suffered from a congenital abnormality called Persistent Right Aortic Arch which prevented her from eating properly. Skin and bones under all that fluff, this little girl had no idea how sick she was. We officially took Cinna into rescue on 2/18/15 and scheduled her life-saving surgery for 2/23/15. The staff at both MCASAC and UVa Blackburg were wonderful in showing us how to administer feedings and we were blessed when a wonderful foster stepped forward to care for her. Unfortunately, due to the complications of her condition as well as a severe heart murmur, she began deteriorating at an increasing pace. Her vet team tried their best to get her well enough for surgery but unfortunately her little body would just not cooperate. So many cards stacked against such a sweet spirit! Faced with putting her through a surgery she may not survive, the decision was made to gently end her suffering. We chose to honor Cinna's life, as short as it was, by letting the students and staff study the causes of her illness in the hopes that they go on to save many many more pets in need. The money leftover from Cinna's fundraiser will be directed towards the other special needs cases we have, specifically the 4 seniors pulled from the terrible hoarding situation.

TIM

Tim came to us as an owner surrender. We worked with him for quite some time to try to rehab and build his confidence. Unfortunately, in our 10 year history, he became the first dog we had to humanely euthanize due to a multiple bite history. Sometimes, in rescue, we need to make difficult decisions, but our primary goal is always to do what is best for the animal and for the community. We hope Tim is now at peace.

JOHNNY

Johnny, a gentle little senior was just looking for a lap to retire in. Why his family left him at the shelter is a mystery. He enjoyed the company of people, other dogs, and cats. Sadly Johnny passed over the rainbow bridge due to a long list of illness and complications from a hard life. He was only with us a week but made a huge impact. We were fortunate to bring this little guy out of a shelter for his last few days, give him a much needed bath and grooming, and time in the loving arms of his foster dad, Nelson. May you run free of pain and suffering little shorty.

CHRIS BISCARDI

KRI's founder passed away suddenly in 2012 after committing her life to rescue. She started KRI in 2005 and upon her death, the people she touched along the way, continued her legacy. We like to think she's proud of the work that is continuing under the KRI name!
