ADOPTION GOALS

The purpose of our adoption program is to place an animal in a responsible home where it will:

  • Receive veterinary care when needed
  • Not add to the pet overpopulation problem
  • Be controlled so it will not roam free in the neighborhood
  • Be happy with its owner and the owner happy with the pet

*Please read the entire process below before submitting an application!

ADOPTION PROCESS

STEP 1:   Submit a Non-Binding Adoption Application

  • You MUST submit a non-binding application to meet any KRI dogs. We are a network of foster homes and do not have a physical location.
  • At this time, we only have the capacity for adoptions within the DC, MD, northern VA areas. We do not ship dogs.
  • Adopters must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Animals cannot be adopted as gifts.
  • If you are not ready to take "ownership" within 7-14 days of the receipt of your application, do not submit your application until absolutely ready to adopt from us.
  • We operate on a first application received, first application served basis. We will do our best to keep respond to all applications within 7 days and keep you informed on where you stand in the adoption line-up. We do not hold dogs.
  • Click here to submit an application online. Or download our application here and scan and email it to kninerescueinc@gmail.com

STEP 2: Home Visit

  • All household members (including pets) MUST be present during the home visit.
  • Visits take approximately 20-30 minutes. A volunteer will ask to be shown the areas of the home (indoors and out) where you intend to keep a dog), walk through any questions or concerns regarding your application or the dog you are interested in, and discuss our adoption process in more detail.
  • You will be notified within a week of the home visit if you are approved to adopt.

STEP 3: Adoption Contract

  • At time of adoption, you will receive a folder with all of your new pet's information. Knine Rescue Inc. uses a one week foster-to-adopt contract. We will hold your adoption check during the one week trial period. On the 7th day, we will contact you to check in and finalize the adoption. After 7 days, your adoption fee is non-refundable.
  • All dogs are dewormed, microchipped, spayed/neutered (if age appropriate), and given age appropriate vaccinations prior to adoption.
  • Please understand, breed listings are only an educated guess.
  • A tax-deductible donation enables us to continue helping other animals.
  • The total cost of adoption is as follows:
