Animal Success Stories

ANNA

Anna Banana finally gets a home! Adopted was out as a pup, and returned to us at four when her caretaker died of cancer. Anna sat in boarding for almost three years, because she no longer took to living with other animals. Despite being loving and successfully completing a training program, she sat. But like Chris always believed, there is a home for every dog, some just take longer to find! Her family of six found her at our adoption event at Pet Valu Fallsgrove. On her home visit, Anna proceeded to make herself comfortable and pick out her favorite spot on the sofa. We wish them all many years of well deserved happiness!

COOKIE

Congrats to Cookie for stealing hearts and winning a home! In 2013, KRI rescued Cookie  from a rural shelter in Georgia along with her 2 siblings. She was adopted, but after her family had unforeseen medical issues, she found her way back to KRI. Thankfully, the family that adopted her sister, stepped up to foster her for a few months. Cookie was then put in boarding for 3 weeks where she quickly captured the heart of a volunteer that came to walk her. Just look at that smile!

DAISY

Around 5 years old and pulled from a terrible hoarding situation, Daisy had just had another litter of puppies before coming to us. All her puppies were adopted and now it was finally her turn. Although she was  very sweet, loved to be held, and adored other dogs she was understandably very timid, fearful of men, and was never potty trained. Thankfully, one of KRI's past adopters was looking to give her first KRI rescue dog, Bridgette, a friend. After years in a hoarders home, and months of being bounced around in rescue, this girl couldn't be happier with her new life: a canine sis ter to show her the ropes, chihuahua friends at the dog park, cute outfits to keep her warm, a warm bed, and most of all a patient and loving mom! Thank you to everyone, most of all her fosters, for helping with this happy ending!

DARCY

Congrats to Darcy for finding her furever home! In early 2013, KRI rescued Darcy from a terrible situation. She found herself in a shelter with a prolapsed uterus and raging hormones. In pain, she was misunderstood. Worse yet, she ended up contracting MRSI after surgery. Her history, coupled with the stress of an uncertain future, understandably led to some trust and behavioral issues but KRI wasn't ready to give up on this girl! With the help of a generous sponsor, we were able to enroll Darcy in a board and train program to help her gain confidence. She settled in quickly and it didn't take long for that special family to see the same potential that we did. We're so happy for you, Darcy!

SWEET SUE

This awesome girl was the first pull we made in our partnership with the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC). Sue was found by some good samaritans in a wooded area. Once her stray hold was up, MCASAC started looking for a rescue rather than putting her straight onto the adoption floor. We don't know how long Sue was on her own, or what exactly she had been through but at after evaluating her medical needs, we learned she had an old injury at her lumbar vertebrae, causing her to have an abnormal gait, in addition to being partially blind in one eye. Despite these set backs, Sue was a gentle, calm, loving, wonderful sweet girl. Sue found her happy ending with the daughter of one of our volunteers. We are sure she is living the good life with lots of  sweet potato treats, her favorite!

  TILA

Congrats to Miss Tila, a 9 year old 90lb shepherd rottie mix who found a lovely home with to spend her senior years. Tila came to KRI in mid 2013 when her owner's impending retirement, failing health, and move to assisted living led her to search for a new home. A friendly, intelligent and cuddly girl, Tila needed a special home as an only dog with an experienced handler. Her desire to please caught her new mom's eye and won her heart.
